Word on the street: "Focus on innovation" needed from political parties

We've been speaking with people across Melbourne's eastern suburbs about what issues will be swaying their vote ahead of this year's federal election.

We’ve been hitting the pavement recently as part of our ongoing work to hear what locals think about which issues are impacting them most and what political parties, MPs and candidates should be doing about them.

Our contributor Joey Robertson visited Chadstone and Oakleigh recently to talk with locals, with our first interview now live with a young man in Oakleigh.

He said one of the main issues concerning him was immigration: “I don’t think either major party is going to do anything about it. I think our economy is too based in immigration to do anything about it at this point.”

Overall, he said a party which would focus on supporting local business and innovation would receive his vote.
