Bayswater Library to remain within shopping centre, but with 55% more floorspace

Locals will soon have a new space for reading, gaming and holding meetings.

The new Bayswater Library will be larger and have more spaces to meet privately.

The library will remain within the Mountain High Shopping Centre, but is slated to relocate from the lower level to a purpose-built space on the upper level in mid-2025.

Knox Council says the new library is a “brighter, modern space” that has been “inspired by the natural environment and tailored to community needs”.

The library’s floorspace will be more than a half larger than the current facility and will have two bookable meeting rooms, two community rooms with a flexible dividing wall, a gaming area and an accessible toilet with a baby change facility.

The new library space will be open to the public later in the year.

“The new location is designed to offer a versatile and inclusive environment for our community,” said Knox Council Mayor Lisa Cooper. “With spaces for work, study and play, accessibility features and dedicated areas for meetings and gatherings, we are committed to creating a welcoming hub that meets the diverse needs of our community.”

What will happen to the current space?

The current Bayswater Library opened in May 2013 and will remain open until the new space is operational.

Library services will be unavailable for a week to facilitate the transfer of equipment and books. During this time, other libraries within the Your Library network will remain accessible to the community.
