Mooroolbark ranks in the top 3 for dog attacks on posties across Victoria
Of the 114 dog-related incidents reported to Australia Posts across Victoria, most occurred in Mooroolbark, Caroline Springs, and Hoppers Crossing.
Australia Post is asking dog owners to do more to stop their pets attacking posties, after 1277 dog-related incidents occurred across the country in the last six months.
Mooroolbark, on the border of the Yarra Ranges Shire, was named in the top three suburbs for dog-related incidents across the state. There were 114 Victoria-based attacks reported to Australia Post, with most occurring in the suburbs of Mooroolbark, Caroline Springs, and Hoppers Crossing.
“I think a lot of the problem is people think their dogs are safe, and they don’t understand that dogs are naturally wired to protect their territory from strangers,” said Rod Maule, Australia Post’s General Manager of Safety and Wellbeing
“Every dog has the potential to bite and they’re only doing what comes natural to them. So it’s your job as the owner to keep your dog secured behind either a fence or in a room before you open the door.”
