At Ferntree Gully Library, it’s easy to forget that you’re less than 200 metres from the busy Burwood Highway.

Known locally as “The Library in the Park”, Ferntree Gully Library is nestled in natural bush surroundings where native birds sing amongst lemon scented gums, acacias and native shrubs.

What it’s like inside Ferntree Gully Library

Indoors, the lush bush outlook surrounding the library is framed by enormous windows, letting in an abundance of natural light. Sections of colourful stained glass high up in the vaulted ceiling cast a warm glow on the book shelves below.

There small collection of books, DVDs, newspapers and magazines are well organised and subject sections are clearly signed. There’s also free Wifi and study spaces that are both comfortable and quiet.

It’s the perfect place to read, work, or study in relaxing and peaceful surroundings with few distractions.

Activities and events at Ferntree Gully Library

The library offers a range of activities to cater to all sorts of people, interests, and needs. There’s craft workshops, bingo for seniors, family and history help, homeschool, Lego events, and Queer Book Chat meetings for ages 13 to 20. You can find the full list of monthly events here.

Kids and families can enjoy morning Tiny Tots and Toddler story times before heading outdoors to play at the adventure playground nearby in Wally Tew Reserve.

When it’s time to stretch your legs, visit the community indigenous nursery opposite the library, or stand on the nearby bridge and admire the Dandenong Ranges while enjoying the sound of the Ferny Creek bubbling below.
