Everything we know about the alleged fatal stabbing in Bayswater

Police have charged a 47-year-old Bayswater man with one count of murder following the alleged fatal stabbing of a 51-year-old Bayswater woman in Bayswater on Saturday 16 November.

Here’s what we know so far.

• Emergency services received reports a woman had been stabbed at a property on Cousin Drive about 11.15am.

• Police arrived to find a 51-year-old Bayswater woman deceased inside the address.

• Police arrested 47-year-old Bayswater man, Milorad Zaric, a short time later at a neighbouring address and took him to hospital under police guard.

• Zaric appeared at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Sunday 17 November, with the court hearing he was withdrawing from drugs and alcohol.

• Police said three teenagers witnessed the attack, with one sustaining a minor injury.

• "It's not a family violence incident," Senior Sergeant Chris Ellway said on Saturday. "It is a tragic set of circumstances. Another woman lost at the hands of a man is just horrible."

• Police charged Zaric with one count of murder.

• Magistrate Ross Betts rejected a request to extend the time for the delivery of a brief after Victoria Police said they needed extra weeks to go through the large amounts of evidence, including forensic material, CCTV and drug analysis.

• Zaric will appear at a committal on February 14.
