This $13 bacon & egg baguette from a Mitcham hidden gem café is worth every penny
We popped down to Collector's Coffee House in Mitcham to sample its filling cafe fare and enjoy the quirky bric-a-brac and memorabilia lining the walls and shelves.
Earlier this week, one of our readers reached out to us and recommended Collector's Coffee House, praising its quaint decor filled with books and a vintage model train set.
Eager to test out a potential local gem, I hopped off the train at Mitcham station on Thursday morning and followed the signs to check it out.
I couldn’t go past the classic egg and bacon baguette for $13, with a long black in a mug costing me an extra $5.80.
With tomato sauce, mustard and two eggs, the simple flavours transported me back to Paris and well and truly filled me up until lunchtime.
Using beans sourced from Melbourne’s own Zest Specialty Coffee Roasters, the coffee was a rich and dark chocolate-infused blend that warmed and woke me up in equal measures.
However, one of the main attractions on show were the various bits of memorabilia, including programs from the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, an edition of the Herald celebrating man’s first steps on the moon and a 1930s model train set.
Takeaway cabinet items include a wide range of baguettes, sandwiches and sweet treats if you are in a rush.
Collector’s Coffee House is located at 1-19 Colombo Street in Mitcham and open from 7am to 5pm on weekdays and 8am to 4pm on weekends.
