Police raid uncovers allegedly stolen cars, meth, and a firearm in Wantirna South

Police tracked down the driver of an allegedly stolen van who fled the scene, later charging him with driving offences.

Police have arrested eight people after discovering a factory allegedly filled with more than 150 allegedly stolen items on Lewis Road in Wantirna South, including a VF Commodore sedan, drugs and a handgun.

After receiving reports of suspicious activity on Friday 10th January, police arrived on scene and quickly arrested seven people inside the factory.

Police said an allegedly stolen Renault van was driven through a boundary fence before being located abandoned on in Ringwood East.

Police located more than 150 allegedly stolen items, including a VF Commodore sedan; a Ford Falcon utility; multiple power tools; drugs including crystal methamphetamine, cannabis and GHB; a handgun; and a number of laptops, tablets and mobile phones.

Police arrested an eighth suspect after turning up to the factory while officers were on-site. They interviewed eight people, including a 23-year-old Mooroolbark woman and a 20-year-old Rowville woman, releasing all eight from custody pending further enquiries.

The driver of the allegedly stolen Renault van, a 23-year-old Clayton man, was arrested on Tuesday 14th January and charged with reckless exposure of a police officer to risk by driving, three counts of theft of a motor vehicle, criminal damage and driving whilst disqualified.

Police remanded the man in custody to appear at Ringwood Magistrates Court on Tuesday 21st January.
