You heard it on the grapevine: Our guide to Yarra Valley's best wineries

Here are a few of our hidden gem favourite wineries to help you beat the crowds next time you fancy a vino (this weekend, then?) and make you look really cool in the group chat.

The Yarra Valley has come a long way through the years, and is now one of Australia's most celebrated wine regions. However, as we all know, with the fame comes the crowds, and many of us locals have spent a sunny weekend vying for space with day-trippers and weekenders at our favourite spots.

Yering Farm Wines

Established as Yering Farm Wines in 1989, the site was settled way back in the early 1800s. With a nod to its historic origins, combined with sweeping views across the Yarra Valley, this family owned and operated vineyard provides guests with a relaxed, rustic vibe with views for days. Intimate and cosy, yet with plenty of space for groups, you can expect vibrant, fresh flavours here as Yering Farm doubles as an apple orchard! The cider is also divine.

Located at 19-21 St. Huberts Road, Yering

Open 7 days: 10am - 5pm

Soumah of Yarra Valley

Toddle down a proper country lane to uncover Soumah of Yarra Valley: blending the charm of northern Italy with a majestic Yarra Valley backdrop, guests can enjoy the views while they sip a range of unique, Italian-inspired blends, including an award-winning Savarro. Lunch is served in the bright, green-house style trattoria and the on-site store showcases a range of amazing local products.

Helen’s Hill Estate

Just a quick drive from Lilydale, Helen’s Hill Estate is a special find and perfect for a great day out. With a range of stunning spaces to relax in, there is also a variety of dining options ranging from pizza on the lawn through to the restaurant with views across the vines. We highly recommend doing a wine tasting when visiting - from Pinot Noir to Chardonnay, these guys know how to wrangle a grape. It can get busy with the weekend crowd, so book in advance or pop in through the week!

Tokar Estate

A Mediterranean-style mansion, picturesque gardens, fairy lights and views across the valley - Tokar Estate has it all (oh, it also has wine, a restaurant, those things). Snap a photo in the rose garden before heading to the rustic cellar door for a tasting, or if you want a little more then head to the restaurant to enjoy a seasonal, locally inspired menu. Make sure to sample some of their more unique wines, especially the Tempranillo.

Located at 6 Maddens Lane, Coldstream

Open 7 days: Mon-Fri 10:30 - 4:30, Sat & Sun 10am - 5pm

Seville Estate

Hidden in the hills on the higher side of the valley, Seville Estate offers a bespoke, beautiful experience for wine lovers. Set amongst intimate yet gorgeously sculpted gardens, guests can enjoy an entirely different view amongst the hills of Seville, all while enjoying some of the most highly awarded wine in the region. Also offering dining on weekends, the freshly renovated venue provides a deck and lawn area to soak up the sun. To enjoy a really special, small-batch wine, or to impress your friend who might just be a bit of a wine snob, this is the place to go. Make sure you book this one in advance.
