Thirsty for a pint but sick of visiting your “local” – or just looking for something a bit more unique? Check out some of the local breweries or brewpubs across the eastern suburbs, including in Ringwood, Croydon, Bayswater and Clayton.

Breweries and brewpubs have been sprouting up across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs recently, with these small communities of beer lovers growing rapidly.

There are plenty of gems to check out — you might even discover your new favourite tipple, or your new favourite place to watch the footy and chat with mates.

Killer Sprocket, Boronia

The brainchild of another husband and wife team who decided to broaden their business on the cusp of the Covid pandemic, Killer Sprocket has only gone from strength to strength, even outgrowing its initial warehouse space last year.

Husband and wife team Sean and Andrea Ryan run the independent brewery in Boronia and have a simple but tasty range of an American Pale Ale, an Indian Pale Ale and an Amber Ale.

Located at Factory 1C/981 Mountain Highway, Boronia.

Two Rupees Brewing Company, Clayton

Hailing from Sri Lanka, Danny Perera and Amila Mendis quickly discovered and fell in love with Melbourne’s craft beer scene. The pair launched Two Rupees Brewing Company midway through 2019 and haven’t looked back since.

Check out their New England Pale Ale or just grab a paddle to try a few of the best pours in Clayton.

Hard Road Brewing, Bayswater

Opened in November 2019 by Lein and Ange Jenkins, Hard Road Brewing offers 20 taps of craft beers, including a traditional Bavarian Lager made with German malts and hops and a Brown Ale with nutty malt, biscuit and a hint of vanilla.

Pub-style meals ranging from a classic burger to a mushroom burger, and loaded fries are also on the menu.

Project Brewing Company, Rowville

Husband and wife Braden and Caitlin launched Project Brewing Company in June 2019 and now boast a wide range of beers straight from the tap, including a 45 per cent malted corn Modern Lager and a Passionfruit Sour.

They also boast regular live music gigs and their Nocturnal Spirit gin, whisky and vodka distillery.

Dainton Taphouse, Croydon

Boasting tasty meals and weekly trivia on Wednesdays, Dainton Taphouse Croydon is the perfect place for a regular meet-up or a special outing.

8 Track Brewery, Ringwood

Launched by husband and wife team Trent and Helen, 8 Track Brewery provides a unique offering by only brewing single batch and limited release beers across its 12 taps.

Live music and entertainment is also a key focus here as it creates a chill vibe for everyone to relax and sip away as the sun sets.
